Ibrahim Mahama appointed Artistic Director of Ljubljana Biennale of Graphic Arts

15 September 2023 - 14 January 2024

The International Centre of Graphic Arts (MGLC) has announced Ibrahim Mahama as the Artistic Director of the 35th Ljubljana Biennale of Graphic Arts in Slovenia for 2024.

In his capacity as Artistic Director for the upcoming Ljubljana Biennale, Mahama seeks to re-establish connections and foster intercontinental relationships between the local Slovenian art community and artists from around the world.

Recognising the role as both a challenge and an opportunity, Mahama views the invitation as a chance to explore the historical relations between his native Ghana and former Yugoslavia during the early 1960s, following the former’s independence from British colonial rule in 1957. Ghana’s post-independence infrastructure – an area of sustained interest for Mahama – showcases the influence of architects from former Yugoslavia, particularly evident in the design of institutional buildings such as the University of Kumasi. Within his role, Mahama hopes to reconnect lost moments shared between his homeland and former Yugoslavia, envisioning the Biennale as a platform for cultural rekindling.

19-23 October 2022

APALAZZOGALLERY is pleased to participate in this year’s edition of Paris internationale, presenting works by Nathalie du Pasquier, Servane Mary and Olympia Scarry.

Nathalie du Pasquier presents new paintings as well as a tridimentional composite sculpture, as shown in her recent exhibition at Ville Savoye Poissy. Figurative canvases accompany smaller abstract works and unique wooden wall-pieces, constantly intervening between the representational and non-representational, reality and imagination, two and three-dimensional forms.

Servane Mary contributes three new abstract works, created using different layers of acrylic, spray paint and ink on laminated pegboard. The overall image results directly from a process that is controlled as well as open to chance.

Olympia Scarry’s onyxes are presented in Paris following her solo exhibition at ICA Milano at the beginning of this year, and represent crystallised minerals with etched fluorescent patterns.
