Museum exhibition
Augustas Serapinas makes his debut in Portugal with his first solo exhibition at the Galeria Municipal do Porto, which has been curated by João Laia.
For this exhibition, the artist has created a large-scale installation that transforms the gallery into a combination of a gym and a design studio. Embodying the idea of cultivating both body and mind, the dumbbells of the bodybuilding machines have been transformed into fragments of classical sculptures, referencing everything from the city of Porto to the worlds of art history and philosophy.
Humorously echoing the motto ‘mens sana in corpore sano’, the exhibition brings together objects and bodies that evoke the origins of Western society.
