APALAZZOGALLERY is pleased to present Able bodies, a Project Room by Maria Szakats. Accompanied by a critical text by Cecilia Bien, the project marks the artist’s first collaboration with the gallery, as well as her debut in Italy. For the occasion, Szakats presents a new series of small-format works, created specifically for the space, which offer an intimate introduction to her artistic poetics.
In her latest creations, Szakats brings allegories of human nature to life through embroidered imagery, drawing inspiration from the tradition of fables featuring animals and plants as seen in medieval and Renaissance tapestries. Through a contemporary panoply of allegorical figures, the artist explores the concept of fragmented personal interiority, with the human body itself remaining absent.
