EVA & FRANCO MATTES AT Shibuya

Projection

In November, Eva and Franco Mattes presented a projection at Shibuya, the world’s busiest crossroads in Tokyo. This marked the beginning of a new project.

At the heart of this project is an artificial intelligence model that the artists trained using their sculpture, Cursed Cat (2025), which depicts a black, earless figure suspended between elation and rage. Regardless of the command, the machine generates strange and impossible felines that are closer to folklore than biology. In this way, it silently contaminates the data sets, introducing distortions and myths into the system that spread through the network like rumours. They are silent guardians of the hidden computational forces that shape our world.
